Good tea starts with good ingredients. It sounds simple, but there is a lot that goes into choosing the right tea leaves, herbs, flowers, spices, and botanicals for a blend.
At Blossom & Brew, we care about where our ingredients come from, how they taste, and how well they work together. We want you to be able to open a pack of loose leaf tea, see the ingredients inside, enjoy their aroma as they steep, and most importantly, enjoy drinking the tea.
That thinking shapes the way we choose our ingredients and create our blends.
It Starts with the Tea
Tea leaves are at the heart of many of our blends, so choosing the right tea is an important first step. We source teas from well-known tea-growing regions in India, including Darjeeling, Assam, and Dooars. Each region has its own growing conditions and produces teas with distinct flavors, aromas, and characteristics.
Darjeeling teas, for example, are known for their delicate and complex character, while Assam teas tend to offer a fuller, more robust cup. Understanding these differences allows us to choose a tea that works naturally with the blend we have in mind rather than using the same base for everything.
The leaves are handpicked and traditionally processed to retain their natural flavor and aroma. We also work with experienced tea professionals who understand how different teas behave when combined with herbs, flowers, fruits, spices, and other ingredients.
Choosing What Goes with the Tea
The tea leaf may be the starting point, but the other ingredients matter just as much.
Across our collection, you will find blends that bring together tea with flowers, herbs, fruits, spices, and botanicals. Depending on the blend, that might mean fragrant rose or jasmine, warming ginger and cinnamon, aromatic cardamom and clove, or other ingredients chosen to complement the character of the tea.
We prefer ingredients that you can recognize when you look at a loose leaf blend. More importantly, every ingredient should have a reason to be there. It might add fragrance, warmth, freshness, sweetness, spice, or another layer of flavor, but it should work with the rest of the blend rather than simply making the ingredient list longer.
Finding the Right Balance
Having good ingredients doesn’t automatically make a good tea. How those ingredients come together is just as important.
When developing a blend, we consider how it tastes as a whole, how the aroma develops as the tea steeps, and whether one ingredient is overpowering another. A floral note shouldn’t completely hide the character of the tea beneath it, just as a strong spice shouldn’t be the only thing you taste.
This is where blending and tasting become important. Blossom & Brew works with tea experts who understand tea leaves and flavor profiles, and our blends are developed and tasted with balance in mind. A robust Assam, for instance, can work beautifully with warming spices, while a more delicate tea may be better suited to lighter floral or botanical ingredients.
There isn’t one formula that works for every tea. Different ingredients behave differently when brewed, which is why each blend needs to be considered on its own.
Ingredients You Can See and Experience
One of the things we love about loose leaf tea is that you can actually see what you are brewing.
Open a blend and you may find whole tea leaves alongside pieces of herbs and spices, flower petals, or other botanicals. They bring their own colors, textures, fragrances, and flavors to the tea, and they also make preparing loose leaf tea part of the experience.
As the tea steeps, the leaves begin to open, the botanicals release their aroma, and the character of the blend develops in the water. It is a simple process, but one that gives you a much closer connection to what is actually in your cup.
What Matters to Us When We Create a Blend
For all the thought that goes into sourcing ingredients, understanding tea regions, developing flavor combinations, and tasting different blends, the questions we come back to are quite straightforward.
Does the tea taste good? Do the ingredients work well together? Can you still appreciate the character of the tea? Is the aroma inviting? And, most importantly, is this something we would genuinely want to brew and drink again?
Our collection ranges from classic Darjeeling and Assam teas to floral, spiced, fruit-forward, and herbal blends because there isn’t one kind of tea for every person or every occasion. What we want to keep consistent is the care that goes into choosing what belongs in each blend.
For us, thoughtfully chosen ingredients aren’t about making tea complicated. They are about starting with good tea, adding ingredients that genuinely belong there, and taking the time to get the combination right.
